For which vehicles is the digital tachograph mandatory?

Since the 1st of May 2006, the digital tachograph is obligated for:

• New buses and coaches carrying more than 8 people, excluding the driver; 
• New trucks including trailers, of which the permissible maximum weight is more than 3,500 kilograms. This concerns its own weight plus the maximum payload.

Since July 24, 2009, the digital tachograph is mandatory for:

• Light commercial vehicles in commercial goods transport, with a date of first authorization after 1 January 2006.
